How to Create New Report Template using the Wizard

Top  Previous  Next

As with any tutorial it is always recommended to read through the tutorial first, and then perform the steps of the tutorial.

In this tutorial we will go through the steps to create a new AVERY 5386 Label.

Once you have gone through this tutorial, you can easily perform the same steps just substituting selecting the label model and label number from the Wizard for your precise label that you wish to create.

It is recommended that you review the Report Designer Features topic and previous report template tutorial before proceeding if you have not yet done so

1.In Addressinator!, click on the menu item File, then click on Report Designer

10.Next screen that displays allows you to edit the size of the label if needed. The Wizard includes the dimensions as provided by the label manufacturer, so usually you do not have to change these unless there is something about your printer that changes the label's size. Instead just click Finish

11.The Design Panel now displays a layout where you will place the datafields. Datafields equate to the fields in the Addressinator! program such as for the company name, first name, last name etc.

15.In the Fields tab, use your mouse to click and drag the AFIRSTNAME datafield and drop onto the design panel

21.Click on the Preview link to see what your report template for this label would look like right now

ReportTutorial18

22.Right now the field for the first name has a border on it that we do not want, so we click again on the Designer link to return to the design panel

23.We will now edit the BorderWidth property to 0 so that there is no border (I realize that there is a Borders property that is already set to None, but the BorderWidth property overrides it)

a.Click on the AFIRSTNAME field in the design panel to select it
b.Click on the Properties tab if not already showing
c.Edit the Border property so that it is 0

24.Now select Preview again - note that the border is now no longer showing

25.Click on Designer again

26.Select the Fields tab again.

27.Click on and drag the ALASTNAME field to the design panel

28.Now do the same as you did with the AFIRSTNAME of changing the size and change the font and set the border to 0

29.For the purposes of this tutorial, these are the only fields we will include, but you can of course drag and drop other datafields onto the report template as desired. We will refer to this template in another tutorial.

30.To save the report template, click on the Save a report menubar item, or select File -> Save

31.To exit, click on the X in the upper right hand corner, or select File -> Exit.

Congratulations! You just completed your first creation of a new report template. We highly encourage you to try many things in the report designer. It is suggested that you export report templates to a file as a backup if you will be making a lot of changes, so that if a report template goes haywire from testing and trying out different things, you can easily import  back in the original - refer to the Report Designer section on how to export and import a report template for further details.
