Use of Addressinator! with SQL Server utilizes the same steps as that for SQL Express, except you use a SQL Server connection string in the Addressinator.exe.config and in the TOMSSQL utility, instead of a SQL Express connection string.
Familiarity with SQL Server is expected before proceeding.
Use of Addressinator! with SQL Server is a 6 step process
| 1. | Requirements prior to installation |
| 2. | Default installation of the stand-alone Addressinator! database and program is installed to server |
| 3. | SQL Server is installed and configured |
| 4. | Creation of SQL Server Addressinator! database |
| 5. | Configuration access for the Addressinator! program on the server |
| 6. | Configuration of networked computers |
1. Requirements prior to installation
The server and networked computers will communicate via TCPIP. If your network is not configured, please contact your local computer center.
Determine the server’s static internal IP address and the server’s computer name.
| A. | Determine the internal network IP Address of the server |
| i. | Open a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd) on the server and type |
ipconfig
| ii. | Make a note of this server computer’s IP Address |

| iii. | Confirm that the networked computers can “talk” to the server |
| a. | Open a command prompt on a networked computer other than this server and type ping and the ip address you noted above. |
| b. | for example if the server's ip address was 192.168.1.8 you would type in |
ping 192.168.1.8
| c. | If you get a timeout, there is an issue connecting via TCPIP. Please contact your local computer center to troubleshoot. |
| B. | Determine the server’s computer name by right-clicking on My Computer, and selecting Properties |
| i. | In the screenshot example below, the computer name is ayanovasupport |

2. Installation of Addressinator! to server
| A. | Download the Addressinator! installation file and to the server using the installation steps Basic Installation steps taking the defaults |
| B. | As recommended - take all defaults – install to the suggested program path C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator |
| C. | Once installation is complete, run the Addressinator! program and confirm successful |
| D. | Exit out of Addressinator! program |
| E. | Do not allow anyone to run the Addressinator! program until configuration steps are completed. |
3. Installation and configuration via SQL Server database server
| A. | Install SQL Server in Mixed Authentication Mode |
| B. | Ensure MSSQL Server and SQL Server Agent is running via Services |
| C. | Ensure Autostart is set for SQL Server and for SQL Server Agent |
| D. | Ensure Named Pipes and TCPIP are enabled protocols. |
| E. | NOTE: If your SQL Server has a firewall, you may need to create an exception for sqlsrvr.exe before continuing |
| F. | Reboot the computer and log in as the computer administrator |
| G. | Confirm again that SQL Server is running |
4. Creation of SQL Server Addressinator! database
| A. | Run the Addressinator! program |
| B. | Select menu Help -> License |

| C. | Select menu option Migrate to MS Sql Server |

| D. | The SQL Migration window displays |

| E. | You will now edit the Microsoft SQL server connection string with your computer name and your sa password |
| i. | for example, if your server's computer name is myserver and the password you set for sa in the SQ Express installation was 45gj6bh, your connection string would look like: |

| F. | Select Start Migration to first test your connection strings |
(of course your connection strings will be different that those shown in the screenshots above as your server's computer name will be different and your sa password will be different)
| i. | If the connection strings are not correct, a message will appear that you need to correct it - there may be an incorrect text entry – check your punctuation, your spelling, your computer server name, your password and retry |

| ii. | You will receive a message if connection is successful – select the Yes button to proceed to create the SQL Addressinator! database. |

| iii. | When finished, the message "Migrate Completed" will display. |
| i. | |
| iii. | Exit out of the sub-window |
| iv. | Exit out of the Addressinator program |
5. Configure Access for the Addressinator! program on the server
| A. | Using Windows Explorer, delete the existing Addressinator.exe.config file in C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator folder |
| B. | You may need to set your Windows Explorer settings to show file extensions |
| a. | Depending on the operating system, select Tool -> Folder Options |

| c. | Make sure Hide extensions for known file types is not check-marked and Show hidden files and folders is check-marked |

| e. | Now you can definitely see all of the files in the folder |

| C. | Delete the existing Addressinator.exe.config file |
| D. | Rename the Addressinator.exe.config.MSSQLSERVER_VERSION file to Addressinator.exe.config |
| E. | Use NotePad to open the Addressinator!.exe.config |
| a. | Do NOT use any other program to edit this file |
| F. | Edit where COMPUTERNAME is the name of the server computer where SQL Server is installed to, and edit LOGINNAME to sa and edit PASSWORD to the password you created for sa during the SQL Server installation |

| G. | Save and close the file |
| H. | You will have noted that the editing would have been the same that you entered when migrating to the SQL database previously |
| I. | Delete the existing Addressinator! icon on your desktop and create new (otherwise you may get an error) |
| i. | Right-click on the desktop |
| ii. | Select New -> Shortcut |
| iii. | Browse to the location of the Addressinator folder and files that you copied to this networked computer’s local hard drive |
| iv. | Select Addressinator.exe |
| vii. | Type a name “Addressinator! 4” |
| J. | Double-click on this new Addressinator! icon on your desktop to run the program and connect to the networked database |
| K. | Because the program is now accessing a networked database, the Addressinator! log in screen will display |
| i. | First time the Addressinator! log in screen loads, it may take a few seconds – it will come up. |
| ii. | The default administrative username to first log in is "manager" with the password "letmein" (no quotations and in lower case) |

| iii. | If you receive an error instead of the Addressinator! login screen, go back through each step and confirm spelling and steps |
| L. | OPTIONAL once you have confirmed successfully launching of the Addressinator! program to the SQL Server Addressinator! database, you may want to edit the configuration file Addressinator.exe.config so that it does not display your SQL Server username and password by using integrated security. For example, re-edit to: |
“data source=SQL_SERVER_NAME;initial catalog=Addressinator; integrated security = true”
| M. | Now that you have confirmed access to your SQL database, you will now delete the ADDRESSINATOR.FDB file in the Addressinator program folder (default location C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator) as no longer needed |
6. Configuration of networked computers
| A. | Uninstall any previous Addressinator! 4 installation on the networked computers |
| B. | Install Microsoft .NET Framework 2 (or higher) and applicable service patches. |
| i. | Check if already installed by opening Control Panel -> Add/remove Programs -> scroll to determine if Microsoft .NET Framework 2 (or higher) is installed |
| C. | Refer to the Microsoft downloads web page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads if you do not already have this installed. If not displayed under Popular Downloads, enter Microsoft .NET Framework 2 in the Search for a Download section |
| D. | Be sure computer has been rebooted if just installed |
| E. | Copy the folder and all its files C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator from the server’s hard drive to local hard-drive of each networked computer |
NOTE: Do NOT run the Addressinator! executable from a networked location – it must reside with all files on each computer’s local hard drive
NOTE: If you did not delete the ADDRESSINATOR!.FDB database file after converting to SQL, be sure to delete it in this program folder before copying the folder and files to the networked computers as it is no longer needed.
| F. | Create a desktop shortcut to the Addressinator.exe |
| i. | Right-click on the desktop |
| ii. | Select New -> Shortcut |
| iii. | Browse to the location of the Addressinator folder and files that you copied to this networked computer’s local hard drive |
| iv. | Select Addressinator.exe |
| vii. | Type a name “Addressinator! 4” |
| G. | Run Addressinator! by double-clicking the Addressinator! desktop icon and confirm successful login. |
NOTE: You must use SQL Server approved backup and restore utilities only.
You can not copy a SQL Server database file to a backup device, and restore that file, and be able to successfully access the restored database.
Refer to the Backup & Recovery section for information on backing up a SQL Server database
