4. Creation of SQL Express Addressinator! database

A. Run the Addressinator! program

B.Select menu Help -> License

SQLMigrate1

C.Select menu option Migrate to MS Sql Server

SQLMigrate2

D.The SQL Migration window displays

SQLMigrate3

E.You will now edit the Microsoft SQL server connection string with your computer name and your sa password

i.for example, if your server's computer name is myserver and the password you set for sa in the SQ Express installation was 45gj6bh, your connection string would look like:

SQLExpress4

F.Select Start Migration to first test your connection strings

(of course your connection strings will be different that those shown in the screenshots above as your server's computer name will be different and your sa password will be different)

i.If the connection strings are not correct, a message will appear that you need to correct it - there may be an incorrect text entry check your punctuation, your spelling, your computer server name, your  password and retry

SQLMigrate5

ii.You will receive a message if connection is successful select the  Yes button to proceed to create the SQL Addressinator! database.

SQLMigrate4

iii. When finished, the message "Migrate Completed" will display.
i.SQLMigrate7
ii.Select OK
iii.Exit out of the sub-window
iv.Exit out of the Addressinator program

5. Configure Access for the Addressinator! program on the server

A.Using Windows Explorer, delete the existing Addressinator.exe.config file in C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator folder

B.You may need to set your Windows Explorer settings to show file extensions

i.Depending on the operating system, select Tool -> Folder Options

FileExtensions1

ii.Select the View tab

iii.Make sure Hide extensions for known file types is not check-marked and Show hidden files and folders is check-marked

C.Delete the existing Addressinator.exe.config file

D.Rename the Addressinator.exe.config.MSDE_SQLEXPRESS_VERSION file to Addressinator.exe.config

E.Use NotePad to open the Addressinator!.exe.config

i.Do NOT use any other program to edit this file

F.Edit where COMPUTERNAME is the name of the computer where SQL Express has just been installed to, and edit PASSWORD to the password you created for sa during the SQLExpress installation

SQLExpress5

G.Save and close the file

H.You will have noted that the editing would have been the same that you entered when migrating to the SQL database previously

I.Delete the existing Addressinator! icon on your desktop and create new (otherwise you may get an error)

i.Right-click on the desktop
ii.Select New -> Shortcut
iii.Browse to the location of the Addressinator folder and files that you copied to this networked computers local hard drive
iv.Select Addressinator.exe
v.Select OK
vi.Select Next
vii.Type a name “Addressinator! 4”

K.Because the program is now accessing a networked database, the Addressinator! log in screen will display

i.First time the Addressinator! log in screen loads, it may take a few seconds it will come up.

ii.The default administrative username to first log in is "manager" with the password "letmein" (no quotations and in lower case)

NetworkLogin1

iii.If you receive an error instead of the Addressinator! login screen, go back through each step and confirm spelling  and steps

L.OPTIONAL Once you have confirmed successfully launching of the Addressinator! program to the SQL Server Addressinator! database, you may also want to edit the configuration file Addressinator.exe.config so that it does not display your SQL Server username and password by using integrated security. For example, re-edit the line so that it uses integrated security = true instead of username and a password - for example:

“Server=COMPUTERNAME\SQLExpress;initial catalog=Addressinator; integrated security = true”

M.Now that you have confirmed access to your SQL database, you will now delete the ADDRESSINATOR.FDB file in the Addressinator program folder (default location C:\Program Files\Ground Zero Tech-Works Inc\Addressinator) as no longer needed

6. Configuration of networked computers

viii.Select Finish

G.Run Addressinator! by double-clicking the Addressinator! desktop icon and confirm successful login.

NOTE: You must use SQL Server approved backup and restore utilities only.

You can not copy a SQL Server database file to a backup device, and restore that file, and be able to successfully access the restored database.

If utilizing SQL Express you will want to investigate using a 3rd party tool for performing management and administrative tasks such as scheduling database backups.

We have listed a few 3rd party tools in the Backup & Recovery section for SQL Express in this Help file.
